Craft Kits- Spotlight on Casting Plaster

There is a lot to love about casting plaster. It is one of those tactile raw products that just feels so great.

It starts out as a silken white powder but when mixed with water, becomes a slurry that takes me back to being a child again making mud pies.

Kids love it, especially the mixing part.

Casting plaster, or plaster of paris, has been around for donkey's years. It is one of my all-time favourite mixed media products. It's versatile and easy to use, and once dried it can be painted, papered, varnished or coated in resin.

It can be the star of its own show as a sculpture or used in a mixed media art piece.

The possibilities are endless, limited only the the artist's or crafter's imagination. See why I love it so much?

Another great thing is that casting plaster is pretty easy to come by and won't break the bank.

If you are wanting to kickstart your casting plaster journey make sure you check out my heart craft kit.

It's a great introduction to casting plaster and a good activity for some rainy day school holiday entertainment.

The kit ($15) includes, casting plaster, paint, ready to decorate hearts, heart moulds, varnish, mixing container, stirrer and papers. All you need to make your own set of hearts.

Check out the  projects place or online courses for ideas. You just need to join my member's area for access but most are free and well-worth a look if you are needing inspiration.

I'd love to see you casting plaster projects and hear if you love this medium as much as I do.

Happy casting!
